Why your site should be
mobile-friendly
WEB DEVELOPMENT, COMMUNICATIONS | MAY 10, 2018
Google is changing the way it ranks websites during a search. And the change could impact on whether your website is seen by millions; or not.
You’re the proud owner of a website. But that doesn’t mean your website will automatically be seen by everyone who searches for it (or related words) on Google.
That’s where Search Engine Optimization comes in (among other things). It’s how you make sure Google reads your site when someone searches a key word linked to your website – and then ranks your site accordingly.
Now, the Elegant Themes team (John Hughes) is highlighting a change in the way Google ranks a site.
And it confirms the importance of mobile devices – and that more people are searching for sites on their phones these day.
According to the Elegant Themes guys, Google has introduced a new update called the ‘mobile-first index’.
From now on, Google will prioritize your website’s mobile version on its results page. So if your website is not mobile-friendly, or if your mobile site has less content than your desktop site, your ranking will fall.
“There’s a key way round this: make sure you have a responsive website – it ensures your site is optimized, and gives an excellent mobile experience.”
